Latin name: Ulmus carpinifolia, Ulmus glabra

Origin: Europe

Characteristics: Heartwood varies from light tanish pink to brown. Generally very tight grained. Can have a lot of tension. Demand is for quartered material. Burls are also available, but scarce because of low demand. Dutch Elm can have unpleasant odor.

 Uses: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
