Walnut, European

Latin name: Juglans regia

Origin: Europe and Asia

Characteristics: Color is more similar to Claro walnut than American Black walnut. A light grey to tan background color with a darker contrasting growth ring and a significant amount of white sapwood. Logs are often referred to as “French Walnut” though the logs are found throughout Europe. Plain sliced logs often develop a lot of quartered material because of defects in the heart. Logs often have figure. European walnut is also produced in burl form.

Use: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
