Origin: Europe, Asia and North Africa

Characteristics:  Color varies from light brown to light red. Heartwood is resinous with contrasting growth rings and a strong aroma when fresh. Texture is medium to fine Clean straight veneer is very hard to come by from these long-lived trees. Knots are often present.

Uses:  Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.
