Primavera

Latin name: Tabebuia donnell-smithii

Origin: Central America

Characteristics: Color is a light yellow to gold with some grey overtones and grain is somewhat coarse. It is a relatively soft hardwood. Many logs are figured and have a beautiful large scale twisted figure similar to a “barber pole”. Is available in both plain sliced and quartered.

Use: Architectural woodwork and fine furniture.

Sustainability:

Primavera is truly a unique species of tree, grown in Central America’s coffee plantations to provide a source of shade for the coffee plants. In order to protect the environment and the plantation there is no large logging equipment being used. Harvesting and truck loading is done by hand! Trees reach maturity quicker than many species and are harvested from the plantations and manufactured for veneer. Because of strict logging laws, only planted trees are allowed to be harvested, so you can be certain that your veneer is plantation grown and sustainable harvested.

Sometimes referred to as “Golden Mahogany”, Primavera is a beautiful species with high luster in both raw veneer and under a finish. Its creamy blonde color and figuring characteristics make Primavera a highly sought after veneer for architectural woodwork, high-class furniture and cabinetry.

Benefits:

Grow to maturity faster than most species

Harvested using “Low-Impact” hand logging and loading

            Only planted trees are harvested

High luster in both raw veneer and under a finish
