Walnut, Claro

Latin name: Juglans californica

Origin: West Coast of the United States

Characteristics: A rich mocha to chocolate brown background color with a darker contrasting growth ring. Generally much more character marked than eastern walnut and sought after for that character. Logs occasionally develop an intense figure in the quarter grain. Splitting often occurs within the trunks and long length of sound material can be difficult.

Use: Architectural woodwork and furniture.
